Outdoor Afterschool

We believe that allowing regular time outdoors for children to learn, grow, and explore helps them thrive in all aspects of their lives.

Outdoor Afterschool was designed with thoughtful intention to give the children the benefit of being outside. Each week will include different activities and lessons, based in, with, and for Nature.

Here is a little peek at what we will be diving into this Fall:

• In August and September we will begin our Summer Harvest, observe the butterflies and lizards, plant our Winter crops, and make sun tea from the herbs in our garden. Our S.E.L. ( Social-Emotional Learning) focus will be building relationships and community.

• October is all about oaks and acorns! We will learn more about the trees around us, harvest pumpkins, and make sundials to celebrate the sun before the time changes. Emotional regulation and self-awareness are the S.E.L. focuses for this month.

• In November we will get to experience peak bird migration season! We will build nests and bird feeders, hike to lookouts for birdwatching, and the mushrooms will begin to pop up. We will explore gratitude and kindness for this month’s S.E.L. focus.

• December will bring our sessions to a close with fungi fun and amphibian home building. We will make spore prints, grow our own mushrooms, and learn to identify the different reptiles and amphibians around the Ranch. Our S.E.L. theme will be empathy and perspective-taking.
