In English & Spanish: Day 1: At Home Greenhouse

Have you ever looked at a seed and wondered what it will be when it grows up?  Just like you, seeds have all the information packed inside to become an adult! It just needs some things to help it grow.
This is a fun at – home gardening project and a great way to reuse eggshells!

Opening questions:

• In the video, Teacher Micayla talks about 5 things a seed needs to grow into a strong and healthy plan. Can you remember what they are? Do you need any of these things to help you grow?

• Do you have to have a garden to plant seeds? What are some ways you can plant seeds without a garden?

• Can you tell me about a time that you have seen something grow?

What You’ll Need:

• Egg carton

• Egg shells cut in half (optional)

• Soil

• Seed

Here’s How:

1. Fill up your egg carton or eggshell about 3/4th with soil.

2. Poke a small hole in the middle of your soil and drop in 2 seeds.

3. Cover your seed with soil and watch it grow.

4. Don’t forget to water your seeds!

Extensions:

• Draw a picture of what you think your seed will look like as it grows.

• How is taking care of a plant like taking care of a human? How is it different?

• What do humans need to stay healthy that plants do not need?

¿Alguna vez has mirado una semilla y te has preguntado qué será cuando crezca? ¡Al igual que tú, las semillas tienen toda la información dentro para convertirse en un adulto! Solo necesita algunas cosas para ayudarla a crecer.

¡Este es un divertido proyecto de jardinería en casa y una excelente manera de reutilizar las cáscaras de huevo!

Lo que necesitarás:

• Cartón de huevos

• Cáscaras de huevo cortadas por la mitad (opcional)

• Tierra

• Semillas

Así es cómo lo harás:

• Llena tu cartón de huevos o cáscara de huevo aproximadamente 3/4 con tierra.

• Haz un pequeño agujero en el medio de la tierra y coloca 2 semillas.

• Cubre tu semilla con tierra y observa cómo crece.

• ¡No olvides regar tus semillas!

Extensiones:

• Haz un dibujo de cómo crees que se verá tu semilla a medida que crece.

• ¿En qué se parece cuidar una planta a cuidar a un humano? ¿Cómo es diferente?

• ¿Qué necesitan los seres humanos para mantenerse sanos que las plantas no necesitan?
