In English & Spanish: Day 1: Turn The Light On!
What happens when the lights go out in the world? Nocturnal animals, such as raccoons and owls, come out and roam throughout the night. Can you imagine what’s going on in the forest at night? We want to see what you think happens in the dark. Create your own scene of nocturnal animals...and of course don't forget to bring your flashlight!
Opening Questions:
Can you tell me what you think nocturnal means?
What nocturnal animals do you know of?
Tell me about a time that you have used a flashlight!
Here’s What You’ll Need:
Ziploc® bag, gallon size
White construction paper (cardstock works best for this project)
Black construction paper (cardstock works best for this project)
Colored permanent markers
Washable markers
Scissors
Invisible tape
Brown paper grocery bags, kraft paper, or newspaper
Instructions:
Prep the bag:
On your white paper, draw an outline of a flashlight with a beam of light.
Stick the black paper into the Ziploc bag (portrait orientation) to see where you’ll need to trim it to fit within the Ziploc bag and be sealed.
Trim off the edge of the black paper accordingly and check the fit.
Temporarily remove the black paper again.
If there is a label anywhere on the bag, make sure to place it face down on the table.
Color a scene:Unleash the permanent markers! Draw whatever scene you’d like on the bag itself, aiming to stay within the bounds of the bag. Ideas for scenes:
Deep sea
Solar system
Forest/woods
Campsite
Create the flashlight:Cut the flashlight shape out of the white paper.
Color in the flashlight with washable markers and add a button (e.g., an oval shape). Do NOT color in the flashlight’s triangular beam – you’ll want to leave it white.
Now for the fun! Stick the black paper in the ziploc bag and then the flashlight you colored and move it around. The white beam looks like it’s illuminating your scene!

Esto es lo que necesitarás:
Bolsa Ziploc®, tamaño de un galón
Papel de construcción blanco (la cartulina funciona mejor para este proyecto)
Papel de construcción negro (la cartulina funciona mejor para este proyecto)
Marcadores permanentes de colores
Marcadores lavables
Tijeras
Cinta invisible
Bolsas de papel de despacho o café, papel de construcción o periódico.
Instrucciones:
Prepara la bolsa:
En tu papel blanco, dibuja el contorno de una linterna con un haz de luz.
Pega el papel negro en la bolsa Ziploc (orientación vertical) para ver dónde tendrás que recortarlo para que quepa dentro de la bolsa Ziploc y sellarlo.
Recorta el borde del papel negro para que sea la medida y verifica el ajuste.
Retira temporalmente el papel negro nuevamente.
Si hay una etiqueta en cualquier parte de la bolsa (generalmente trae el espacio para la fecha y contenido de la bolsa), asegúrate de colocarla boca abajo sobre la mesa.
Colorea una escena:
¡Desata los marcadores permanentes! Dibuja la escena que quieras en la propia bolsa, con el objetivo de mantenerte dentro de los límites de la misma. Ideas para escenas:
Mar profundo
Sistema solar
Bosque
Cámpamento
Crea la linterna:
Recorta la forma de la linterna del papel blanco.
Colorea la linterna con marcadores lavables y agrega un botón (por ejemplo, una forma ovalada). NO colorées el haz triangular de la linterna; déjalo en blanco.
¡Ahora a divertirte! Coloca el papel negro en la bolsa ziploc y luego la linterna que coloreaste y muévela. ¡Parece que el rayo blanco está iluminando tu escena!
